Everybody talks about startups, but in my experience, meeting thousands of founders around the world, very few of them know what a startup is. They are building ordinary, maybe high-tech, companies.

Some people's comments on LinkedIn make me believe there's still confusion. The second hits as well is an excellent idea. I see a lot of potential areas not covered by new startups. I'll take note for possible future articles.

One idea from Steve Blank that summarizes this paradigm is that as companies execute on a proven business model, startups (during their lifetime as startups) look for a scalable and repeatable business model.
